Despite what Instagram influencers make it look like, posing for good pictures is hard! Hand on hip? Leg out? Hold the camera high or low? Angle your head? There are so many different poses and angles to get an Insta-worthy picture; knowing what works best is no easy task.

Worry no more! The Museum of Illusions, one of the most Instagramable places in Los Angeles, is breaking down posing for Instagram. Read through this list and make your Instagram game stronger.

One Foot Forward

Our natural reaction to a camera pointed at us is to stand straight, feet planted side by side. But, when you put one foot forward it gives your pose a more natural and effortless appearance. This is the case because it gives the body a natural curve, creates movement, and interest in the image.

Movement Is Okay

Getting a good shot of movement is tricky. You will end up with plenty of awkward and blurry pictures, but once you get that one perfect shot it will be worth the effort. Natural movement will create an interesting picture that people will want to look at.

Angles Matter

This is perhaps the hardest part of getting a great picture! When you are taking a full-body shot, try to avoid angling the camera too high. That can create awkward shadows and enhance the wrong facial features. Stick to the front (eye level with poser) or low angles.

Have Fun!

This is perhaps the most important part of taking pictures, especially at the Museum of Illusions and Upside Down House! Don’t be afraid to get creative and have fun in your pictures. Throw your hands in the air, jump, twirl… whatever it may be, as long as you are having fun.
