LA isn’t exactly known for its public transit, but the metro system is improving, and there are now plenty of tourist attractions and museums you can visit without a car. Not only does this mean you don’t have to rent a car for your visit, but it also means you don’t have to deal with LA’s horrendous traffic. Here are some of the most exciting things to do in LA you can get to by public transit.

Museum of Illusions – Hollywood/Highland Station

The Museum of Illusions is one of the most exciting museums in LA at the moment. They have a breathtaking display of optical illusions, and they invite you to take pictures throughout the experience to bring home with you. It’s a very engaging and family-friendly activity, and it’s just a block away from the Highland Street station on the Red Line.

Broad Museum – Civic Center Station

There are plenty of great art museums to choose from in LA, but the Broad is a very fun and accessible option that anyone can enjoy, regardless of how much you like art. The quirky, modern pieces invite you to think about things from a unique perspective, and many of them have become Instagram-famous over the years. You can get there by taking the Red or Purple line to Civic Center and then walking a few blocks.

Santa Monica Pier – Santa Monica Station

The Expo line opened just a few years ago, and now you can take a train from downtown Los Angeles all the way out to the beach. Take advantage of LA’s beautiful weather and visit the iconic pier and all the attractions that come with it.

Universal Studios – Universal City Station

Many people are also surprised to learn that you can get to the popular amusement park on the Metro. Take the Red line north to Universal City, and from there you can grab a shuttle or walk. There you can see Harry Potter World and many of the other famed exhibits.

These are just a few of the many public transit accessible attractions in Los Angeles. The Metro system is constantly expanding as well, so you can expect to see even more in the future.
